We’re On Stage at the Fringe
Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009
Just like we did last year, we’ve come back from our holiday break and have gone straight into producing the costumes for a play in the Fringe Festival. This year we’re dressing the cast of The Piradicals, an Angry Peach Production. Duncan, Tessa and Amanda have been having fun printing and ripping denim and stripes with the mermaid print, the tentacle, and plenty of vintage ties.
The Piradicals is playing from February 13th to the 21st at The Moorings, 31 Glenbervie Terrace in Thorndon. Text or call 021 135 0292 to book tickets. Fringe addicts get a discount, of course, but for those who want to know more about the Fringe Festival, please visit the Fringe website. All theatre, dance, comedy and outdoor activities are listed there and booking anything is easy.
And if there’s only time in your busy February schedule for one thing, then people, make it The Piradicals, a tale of chaos inside the revolution. From what we gathered from our briefs in preparation of the costumes, the play hopes to identify with anyone who feels their modern lifestyle is at once a luxury and a strain, a burden. Perhaps it’s time we all went over – hook line and sinker – to the Dark Side. Aaaargh, Me Hearties!
Another Fringe associated spectacle I highly recommend is the Hopelessly Devoted exhibition of provocatively painted photography showing upstairs at the Embassy Foyer. Artist Sophie Stone is playing with the myth-making perception of the viewer in her representations of western fairytale. Stone is an actor in The Piradicals (she’s the blond one in the denim one-piece) and my niece.
Even more reason why Uncle Duncle and myself feel utterly proud to give our resources and energy to the play, especially as it associates us with the one and only Fringe Festival. It fills Wellington with staunch attitude and even more creative juice than usual at the height of Summer each year. Go the Fringe!
